The Passion Play - lots of pics  (Related)

This should have posted a couple of week ago. I don't know where it disappeared to.

Our church puts on a incredible passion play every year. Everyone - the actors, makeup, backstage, and singers - are unpaid volunteers but the play is a near professional quality musical. There's a new music pastor and he made some significant changes that enhanced the play greatly.

I took over 400 pictures and I'm going to try to make a slide show with them. Here's a few  ....

Now, the premise is that when John is on Pathmos, he explains what it was like to be a disciple to some fellow christians/prisoners.

Jesse dragging in the family.        John telling them about Jesus        Early scene

The guy that played him was fantastic.

It is shown like live action flashbacks and several times everyone freezes as they walk through the scene discussing it.

Jesse and Dani reprised their roles as a Roman soldier and as a dancer/angel/servant respectively. This year their bf, Michael, was the backup Jesus and he did a fantastic job in his performance.  (It's not Mike in the pics)

Mike's mom did makeup and I filled in for her during the 2nd performance, so she could watch Michael's debut. I helped with the rest of performances too because they were short handed. Turns out that I am gifted at applying stage makeup, fake beards, scars and fake blood.   Where would that go on a resume?  ;)

Healing scene                              Dani is the on the right                     ^^  Dani

End of the triumphal entry scene         The Last Supper                            Jesus' trial

It's really cool how they do this.

It's material that becomes see through when it.

Pastor Rich also added to/extended many of the scenes and the scene were Jesus is beaten was very dramatic.  The soldies taunted him and at various times they hit him.  Jesse said that this scene was very difficult for him to do. v v

We made scars all over Jesus that was covered by his costume.  During the beating scene they froze.  John walked through it and then went to the other side of the stage while he talked about what it was like to be there.   It went dark on Jesus and he came behind stage.  We removed the costume and dumped fake blood over him.  So when the action restarted, he looked like  ^^.

When I used to play a townsperson, I was in this scene.  It is extremely emotional to look up and see Jesus on the cross like this.

The kids have a stick ministry that they perform to music.  This was used to fill the intermission and give makeup time to clean up Jesus for the 'He arose' scene.  I didn't upload any pictures of it, but after this it goes to a scene in heaven and John quotes his revelation.  Then the adulterous woman sings.  grrr I can't remember the name of the song.  Awesome ending.
