Britain's Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett has revealed that she is planning to attend next week's Iraq Neighbors Conference as well as the official launch of the International Compact.

'I intend to represent the United Kingdom at both events' at Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, Beckett said in a written parliamentary reply published Thursday.

The UN has already announced that the International Compact for Iraq (ICI), which seeks to consolidate peace in the war-torn country and pursue political, economic and social development over the next five years, will be launched on the eve of the conference on May 3.

Foreign Office in London has confirmed to IRNA that the UK will be represented at 'senior level' in the Sharm El-Sheikh meeting.

The conference is the follow up of the first meeting in Baghdad in March of envoys from Iraq's neighbors, UN Security Council members, the Arab League and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council since the disastrous launch of the US-led war in 2003.

At the meeting, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki appealed to neighboring countries to help restore stability. Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said it was also decided to set up several committees to discuss issues including security, refugees and energy supplies.

The involvement of neighboring countries came after the American Iraq Study Group last December called on the US to open a dialogue with Iran and Syria, when calling for a fundamental review of the White House's failed policies.
