MADISON, Wis. -- Lottery lovers maxed out the numbers 7-7-7-7 for the Daily Pick 4 game Friday, a day ahead of what some see as the luckiest day of the century -- July 7, 2007.
The Wisconsin Lottery said they reached their $3 million liability limit for Friday night's drawing at 4:10 p.m. Around that time they also had $1.4 million in ticket sales for the same numbers for Saturday.
"We don't know if they're hedging their bets, or playing against the grain, or what," lottery spokesman Andrew Bohage said in a statement.
Many people also picked the 7-7-0-7 combination, Bohage said.
Alas, the 7-7-7-7 numbers turned out to be unlucky, at least for Friday. The winning Pick 4 numbers were 0-4-9-8.
"You go up there thinking it's a felon you're dealing with," assistant police Chief Greg Duck said.
The girl, who was slightly injured in the crash, is now charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident. Duck said she sideswiped another vehicle during the roughly 8-mile chase.
The chase began around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when a patrol officer near the Florida line saw the car speeding west along a beach highway, Duck said. When the officer flicked on his lights, the driver sped up. The girl rolled the car just inside the Gulf Shores city limit.
Duck said the girl, whose name was not released because of her age, told police she was on her way to pick up her sister at a concert.
Investigators found no alcohol in the car but believe the girl drank before getting behind the wheel of the car, which belongs to relatives.
Duck declined to release the girl's blood alcohol level but said a blood test at the hospital showed it was higher than .02, the legal limit for minors.
The man police have dubbed the Bonbon Bandit is wanted in as many as 20 holdups in downtown Boston since April 17. He has brandished a knife, a handgun and even a sawed-off shotgun.
"I think he's extremely dangerous," Detective Sgt. Richard Ross said.
The robber tends to target businesses that are generally staffed by women and not monitored by security cameras, police said. Besides seven gourmet chocolate and ice cream shops, the Bonbon Bandit is suspected of robbing gift shops, stationery shops, a dry cleaner's and a candle store.
The bandit, Ross said, is a black man in his late 30s or early 40s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 140 pounds and clean-shaven. He has been seen wearing a baseball cap and carrying a faded leather laptop bag across his chest.
Steven S. Cole, a former volunteer firefighter, pleaded guilty to a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and disorderly conduct.
