Today's wireless LAN (WLAN) networks are subject to security threats that cannot be intercepted and neutralized by conventional firewall and VPN security systems. This leaves networks vulnerable to hackers and puts organizations at risk and in potential violation of regulatory requirements such as PCI, HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley. Competing WLAN solutions, which use only dual radios, perform intermittent security scans, interrupting the flow of client traffic and negatively impacting application performance. Alternatively, organizations can deploy a separate overlay network of dedicated security sensors, which doubles equipment costs and substantially increases ongoing maintenance expenses.
The Colubris MAP-630 brings a new level of security, performance and flexibility to enterprise WLAN deployments, with three dedicated 802.11 a/b/g radios: one each for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, and one dedicated to continuous RF security. This design allows organizations to provide total access to 802.11a and 802.11 b/g clients, while the third radio is dedicated solely to network security monitoring across both bands.
The product is ideally suited for: Demanding multi-application networks found in healthcare, manufacturing, and medium to large enterprises, where strong security, high performance and two channels of access capacity are required. Local mesh networks, with one radio dedicated to backhauling traffic, the second providing client access and the third performing full-time intrusion detection and prevention.
"Enterprises increasingly require universal connectivity for end-user devices and the assurance that critical business applications operate uninterrupted at maximum speeds," said Tom Racca, vice president of marketing for Colubris. "The MAP-630 provides uncompromised Wi-Fi performance for employees and visitors, while delivering the ironclad RF security that is a must-have for organizations. This combination is impossible to achieve with a dual-radio AP."
The MAP-630 is part of the award-winning Colubris Intelligent Mobility Solution, an optimized WLAN switching system that combines high performance client access with integrated best-of-breed RF security. The solution performs full-frequency security scans that accurately detect and classify over 150 different WLAN events, threats and vulnerabilities without false positives. Pre-defined reports for PCI, HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley and GLBA simplify compliance reporting for organizations that rely on WLANs for mission critical communications.
The MAP-630 is the second product in Colubris' new 600 Series family of access points. Last month, the company unveiled the MAP-625, the industry's first intelligent enterprise-class 802.11n access point, which gives organizations the only centrally managed WLAN networking solution to enable cost-effective migration from legacy standards to 802.11n without disruptive upgrades, architectural changes or additional peripheral equipment.
